Congratulations Kindergarten Students!!!!
I am pleased to announce that the Kindergarten class was a winner of the “Which Class Has the Most Sense?” challenge. We raised a total of $72.26 which was the most money per student for our Janeway Penney Drive. The grade 4/5 class raised the highest classroom total of approximately $119 and our school total was approximately $455!!! The Student Council presented us with a certificate that we can display in our classroom. Again I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each student and their families/friends for contributing to this worthy cause.
I decided to treat our class for all of their hard work. Students voted today and chose to have a pizza party and movie to celebrate their victory. We will be having our pizza party on Wednesday morning starting at recess time. Students can still order from the canteen, however pizza will be available for all!

Busy Week!
Hi All!
Remember tomorrow is "Dress Like a Teacher Day"! I also sent home 2 notes today, so please check green folders!
One is outlining our winter carnival day which takes place on Thursday. Students attend FULL DAY!Theme of the day is "Grandparents" so students are asked to "age" a few years and dress accordingly! The morning will consist of breakfast, a talent show, and team activities (some may be outside so please bring along hats, mittens, snowpants etc.!). In the afternoon we will be having class fires. Students were asked to bring along an item (please see note!) to help us participate in all of the fire challenges.
*** Students will be notified in the morning as to whether or not they need to bring along items for the fire, in the afternoon.***
The other note was an order form for Kindergarten Graduation Class T-shirts ($14.00 each). Shirts are red in colour and will have a Kindergarten logo on front, class signatures on the back and year of graduation. They are very cute! The deadline for ordering is Friday, April 12th. Please sign and return note, even if your child is not ordering, so that I know everyone has seen the order form. I will send out another reminder after the break.
FYI The graduation date will be determined after Easter break.
Mrs. Power
P.S. We are doing great with our scavenger hunt! Keep bringing in your items!
P.P.S. We have been focusing on letter sounds lately and have been using the following alphabet videos to introduce the sounds as we cover them. The students seem to be enjoying them so I thought I would share it for home viewing as well! http://havefunteaching.com/videos/alphabet-videos/

chosen for Kindergarten so wear something pink!)

Thursday
March 28th:
Grandparent’s Day (Dress up like your grandparents)
Winter
Carnival Day!!! – FULL DAY For Kindergarten! Activities are planned for the entire day so the Kindergartens are asked to attend both morning and afternoon
sessions, so they will not miss out on any of the fun! Plus it’s
great practice for next year! Additional information will be sent
out next week!
Class
Scavenger Hunt:
Classes are competing in a
scavenger hunt for spirit week. We will be doing some of the whole team picture
challenges next week, however there is a list of items that need to be brought
in from home. If you have any of these lying around your house, please send
them in by your child so we can get points for our class. They will be returned
the same day, after our classroom scavenger hunt list has been signed. Good
luck Kindergarteners!!!

Generous Kindergarteners!
I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank the students and their families/friends for supporting our penny collection for the Janeway Children's Hospital. Our class collected a grand total of $72.26!!! That's a whole lot of pennies! The students had fun seeing our collection grow and counting the many rolls as we prepared them for deposit. The winner of the classroom challenge is yet to be announced but I will definitely be treating the kids for their hard work regardless of the results. Way to go!
Mrs. Power
P.S. Stay tuned for the rescheduled date for the winter carnival. A decision should be made by tomorrow and I will pass along the information as soon as I have it!

Snowshoe Outing
Just a reminder that tomorrow (Feb. 18th) is our snowshoe outing with the Glovertown Kindergarten class...weather pending. A decision will be made tomorrow morning, so please come to school prepared, just in case. The schedule has changed so Kindergarten students will attend in the morning regardless of whether or not our outing goes ahead. Please remember to dress warmly, bring along a snack, and bring your snowshoes if you have your own!
See you all in the morning!

Important Notes!
·
Candy Grams: Student council will be selling candy
grams this week. Students can purchase a candy treat for someone in the school
(or themselves if they wish) at a cost of 50 cents each. Each candy gram will
include a message and will be delivered on Valentine’s Day. Order forms going home today and due Friday Feb. 8th!
·
Homework: Back to regular schedule…due Friday this
week! I have decided to keep reviewing the same sight words this week, as I
want to do more work with our current lists, rather than overwhelming students
with new words. Some students may have new words, if they have not already
received all of the words we’ve done so far. Keep practicing and spying out
your sight words in the books you read!
Have a great week!

A Long Overdue Update
I apologize for the lack of updates lately. Things have been quite busy, yet I will try and keep the blog as up to date as possible in the coming weeks.
Those involved in snowshoeing today seemed to have a wonderful time on the trail. We seen some animal tracks and had great fun on this crisp winter day! The second group which was scheduled for Thursday, has been re-scheduled to Monday. Be sure to dress warmly with snow pants, mittens, hats etc.
Some Other Notes:

Some Other Notes:
- Homework is due on Thursday this week. I will be out on Friday and would like to get it all organized and ready for next week before I leave. Some students did not receive any new sight words this week. I decided to stop on the third set to give you some time to review. When you are reading to your child, have them point out any sight words that they see!
- Book Orders Due Thursday
- New calendars went out today for February. I've noted days when we will going to the library to exchange our books. Please have your child's library book in their book bag for that day so that they can sign out a new one. (First one is this Friday!)
- Teddy Bear Picnic: We've been working on a bear unit in our classroom and will be concluding it with a Teddy Bear Picnic. I've chosen Feb 14th for the picnic so that we can combine it with our classroom Valentine's Day Party. More information to follow!
