Alphabet Activities

Students will begin to bring home alphabet flash cards this week to continue reinforcement of letter recognition and production of letter sounds. There are 7 baggies containing 3 or 4 cards which will be rotated among students on a weekly basis. Please practice the activities with your child. They will have an opportunity to show me what they learned at the end of each week!

Here is a great website for letter games and beginning readers you may wish to try with your child.

Play and Learn Week!

As indicated in the Memo I sent home on Friday, Play and Learn Week is happening across the province from Monday November 5th to Friday November 9th. The focus is on the importance of including play in your child's daily life. You can check out the initiative here: http://www.ed.gov.nl.ca/edu/earlychildhood/power.html

Your child will be bringing home promotional materials when we receive them and will be involved in a number of activities at the school. The schedule is as follows:

Monday: Classroom Scavenger Hunt
Tuesday: Games of Days Gone By - Parents Invited 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm*
Wednesday: Design Your Own Game**
Thursday: Parent Information Session and Play Period in the Gym - Parents Invited 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm
Friday: Artwork Day

*On Tuesday we will be having a brief discussion of games of the past. Please note that these 'old fashioned' games may not be that old. The games of today, as you know are often high-tech like DS video game systems, so Barrel of Monkeys, Guess Who, Hopscotch, KerPlunk, and even card games like Go Fish can be considered 'old fashioned' today! If you are available, please come to the Kindergarten classroom at 2:30 pm ready to have some game-playing fun with your child. Bring along any games you would like to share. There will also be games available in the classroom to play.

**If you tried making up a game with your child at home, Wednesday will be their opportunity to share their game with classmates. Feel free to send along a brief note on how to play. Not to worry if your child didn't make up a game. They will have an opportunity today to make one up in school. Links to check out for help:
